Children's Ministry

2008 Summer Activities

Double Oak Community Church is intentionally working to develop a great ministry to children.  We have several core values that determine how our ministry ministers to children:

Relational

Through Children's Worship and Kid Connection, our goal is to help children connect with God.  We want them to know that they can have a personal relationship with the Almighty God of the universe.  Through small groups, our goal is to help children connect with each other.  We want to provide a place where children can grow spiritually with other believers - a place of accountability and encouragement.

Application Oriented

In our curriculum, we want to answer 3 questions for children:
  • Know what?
  • So what?
  • Now what?

We want to share information from the Bible with them, but we also want them to know how these stories and this information impacts their lives.  Then, we want to encourage them to use these things that they have learned in their everyday lives.

Safe

Double Oak wants to be a place that is safe for children.  We want to provide physical safety, both in our facility and equipment.  But, we also want to provide safety by completing background checks for all of our staff and volunteers.  We also want to be a place of emotional safety - a place where no child is ever labeled or treated unkindly.  We also want to be a place of spiritual safety.  We don't believe that children should be motivated by shame or guilt.  We provide a safe place for them to ask honest questions about the Bible without fear of ridicule.

Fun

In all of our teaching and activities, we believe that everything should be kid-targeted and age appropriate.  What is fun to a 4 year old is not necessarily fun for a 4th grader.  We want all of our activities to be creative and relevant.
