Kids Camp 2010
WHERE: Student Life for Kids Camp takes place at Shocco Springs Conference Center in Talladega. It is about 44 miles away. We take a chartered bus on Monday morning, June 28 and return by bus on Thursday morning, July 1. The conference center contains several lodges that house the kids in hotel-like accommodations. There are usually 4-6 in a room with their own bathroom (no TV though). The boys stay in one lodge, and the girls in another. All the food is served in a central cafeteria which offers a hot food and a sandwich line for every meal. (Meals are included in the registration fee).
WHO: Student Life for Kids is the organization that runs the camp. They set up the housing, food, worship leaders, curriculum, group recreation activities, etc. and invite churches to participate. Our church has participated with this organization since 2006. We have found the event to be very well-planned, safe, and a lot of fun for the kids.
WHY: We take kids to Kids Camp because it supports the Core Values of our Children's Ministry:
- Relationships - Kids Camp encourages the kids to have a personal relationship with God, and relationships with other Christians.
- Application Oriented - Kids Camp offers Bible teaching in the corporate worship setting and in Family Group Bible Studies that teach kids to apply scripture to their lives.
- Safe - Kids Camp is a safe place for kids to play, worship, and learn. Our conselors all complete background checks, as do all the employees of Student Life and Shocco Springs. We feel very safe in this environment. We also do our best to keep the kids safe emotionally (no teasing, bullying, etc.) and spiritually (free to ask questions and learn).
- Fun - Kids enjoy the fun of being at camp, within the security of safe boundaries. There is miniature golf, ping pong, basketball, swimming, etc. for the kids to do in their free time. There are also exciting worship times and group recreational activities specifically planned with 3rd - 6th graders in mind.
WHEN: The dates for Kids Camp are June 28 - July 1. The cost is $269 per camper, but we can help with either a full or partial scholarship if needed.
